Winter Trails® Anchor Sites

Description: Come join the winter fun as REI and Kirkwood host the annual national Winter Trails Day event at Kirkwood Cross Country Ski Area and Snoweshoe Center.  On Saturday, January 10, 2009 snowshoe vendors, including Atlas, MSR, and Tubbs, will offer free snowshoe demos from 10am-3pm and REI Outdoor School instructors will provide guided snowshoe tours on designated trails at Kirkwood.

Participants can also visit variety of educational stations covering winter recreation, such as overnight camping and outerwear essentials.  Eldorado Nordic Ski Patrol will feature backcountry travel concepts, including avalanche awareness, navigation, and safety while Sierra School of Survival will share tips for putting together cold weather emergency kits for vehicles and backpacks, as well as other wilderness skills for winter travel.

Kirkwood will offer FREE mini ski lessons from 10am-2pm. This free package includes the lesson, an equipment rental, and a trail pass. Daily trail users can also enjoy a $6 discount on Kirkwood Trail Passes.  For more information call 209-258-7248.

Kirkwood Cross Country Ski Area and Snowshoe Center is located a ½ mile east of Kirkwood Mountain Resort on Highway 88 and is adjacent to the Kirkwood Inn.  Parking is limited so please carpool.
