Program: FREE Nordic Walking Lessons and FREE Nordic Walking Pole Rentals will be provided on Winter Trails Day. The focus will be on Nordic Walking, while other supporting locations will be promoting other Nordic Sports. Nordic Walking, Nordic Skiing (cross country) and Nordic Snowshoeing are wonderful ways for children and adults to discover the many wonderful fitness and social benefits of enjoying winter.

Program: Entering its 15th year, the event offers children and adults NEW to snow sports the chance to try snowshoeing and cross country skiing for FREE, and to discover the great fitness and social benefits with these easy-to-learn winter sports. A national snowsports day.
Start at 10 AM, Free registration and free outfitting in snowshoes, boots, skis and poles for children and adults NEW to snow sports.
10:30: X-C Ski & Snowshoe clinic, with skiers in boots, skis and poles and snowshoers in snowshoes. Learn how to get the skis and snow shoes on, how to hold the poles and how to start cross country skiing and snowshoeing. Also includes learning how to fall down and how to get up!
11:10: Go on a tour to Trappers Cabin for Hot Dogs, bonfire and Hot Cocoa. All at no charge! After a rest at the Cabin skiers & snowshoers will be able to choose to go on their own and explore more trails or be guided back to Cross Country Ski Headquarters.
Noon - 3 PM: Skiers return from their tours and return snowshoes, boots, skis & poles. They are invited to relax in front of the Fireplace in the Stone Turtle Day Lodge.
3 PM Draw registrants names from hat for prizes.

We have a limited number of skis and snowshoes so we ask that you pre-register. By pre-registering and sending an email with your name, address, age, shoe size choice of skiing or snowshoeing to: skibones@aol.com we can confirm your reservation for participation and equipment.

Program: Have you ever wanted to try snowshoeing or cross country skiing but lacked the equipment or the instruction to do it? Well, you’re in luck! The Hiawatha National Forest together with Brampton Bike and Ski are celebrating National Winter Trails Day and will have cross country skis, boots and poles as well as snowshoes available free of charge for the public to use at the Rapid River Ski Trail from noon until 4:00 PM, Saturday, January 9th. Equipment will be available for adults as well as youngsters and volunteers will be on hand to teach the fundamentals of both skiing and snowshoeing. Hot cocoa and a bonfire will keep everyone toasty!
In order to ensure that adequate equipment and instructors are on hand, folks are asked to pre-register for the event by calling Brampton Bike no later than 4 PM on Friday, January 8th at 428-2135.
The Rapid River National Cross Country Ski Trail is located 6 miles north of Rapid River on US 41 and includes 5 classic loops, 2 skating loops and one snowshoe trail.
